Chapter Twenty-Nine

I love Felix. He is one of the most fun characters I’ve ever written. Rebekah is my favorite, as I’ve said, but Felix is more fun to write.

Also fun to write was the debate that that Felix and Eric have in the car. Felix very much wins the argument, because he spends all day everyday thinking about his ideology, and Eric’s just a kid.

The stuff about Helen Keller is 100% true. Quoting from the book Lies My Teachers Told Me, by James Loewen: “The truth is that Helen Keller was a radical socialist. She joined the socialist party in Massachusetts in 1909 . . . Keller hung a red flag over the desk in her study. Gradually she moved left of the Socialist party and became a Wobbly, a member of the Workers of the World . . . She helped found the American Civil Liberties Union.”
